So you want to change the world?
Amazingly... you’re not alone!
Here it is - the new, improved, online version of The Agitator.
This directory is based upon the second, May 2000 version of the Agitator booklet.
Created by people from Counter Information,
Haringey Solidarity Group and the
Anarchist Distribution Service, it contains details of autonomous non-hierarchical, libertarian activist groups,
magazines, bookshops, and other organisations.
Unless otherwise stated, details have been provided by the groups themselves.
Owing to popular demand we have some added extra sections:
- Further information gives details of groups within movements we/you work closely with;
- Alliances is a list -- probably very incomplete -- of groups and individuals coming together
in various parts of the country to swap information about what they are doing;
- International is another incomplete list -- but somewhere to start making links...
Because we have expanded the amount of information in this online version of edition two,
we emphasis again: inclusion in this directory does not necessarily mean we support everything
each group does. Further, we have not checked out any of the groups in other movements' directories
- we leave this to your judgement and choice.
We created this directory as a way of encouraging information-sharing, solidarity and networking
between those of us who are actively involved in the struggle against the oppressive and exploitative
society we live in -- groups and individuals who are agitating for a society based on freedom, equality,
co-operation, self-organisation, and mutual aid. We want to be part of creating a culture of resistance,
encouraging people to organise to reclaim their lives.
Use this directory to get in touch with other activists in your local areas and get involved.
It's there to enable similar groups around the country to swap skills, information and anything else -
it's up to you. It's there so we realise we are not alone doing what we are doing. It's our movement.
We want to see it grow. We want it to be unstoppable. If there is no group listed in your area,
we may be able to put you in touch with other individuals in your area - with everyone's consent
of course.
The Agitator can only work properly with your support. If you let us know about groups
in your area, using the online form or by post, we can update the site and will include them in the
next printed edition.
All we ask is that they take a view something along the lines of:
Our aim is to promote solidarity, mutual aid and linking working class struggles.
We can't rely on politicians or leaders to do things for us - we've got to organise
and do it ourselves.
You can also use the online form if we’ve got
your group’s details wrong, if they have changed or if you have gone into hibernation.
There are thousands of us doing stuff to change the conditions we live in; but unfortunately
very few of us know anybody else outside our small circles. It's about time we started linking up
with all the others trying to do the same. So let’s get organised, get active and go change the world -
rather than just talking or dreaming about it!
All information in this directory is, to the best of our knowledge, correct.
But in our "movement", groups come and go.
That's our beauty and our strength... and also our weakness.
